The Linden Method for Emetophobia
The fear of vomiting can take over your entire life — controlling what you eat, where you go, and who you spend time with. Emetophobia is not irrational. It is a biological fear mechanism that can be permanently corrected using The Linden Method's TRT approach.
How emetophobia takes over — and how to permanently end it
Emetophobia typically begins with a traumatic vomiting experience — often in childhood — that leaves the fear mechanism sensitised to vomiting-related triggers. Over time the fear generalises: fear of nausea, fear of others being ill, fear of restaurants, fear of travel, severe food restriction.
By the time most emetophobia sufferers seek help, the condition has significantly restricted their life. Many eat fewer than ten 'safe' foods. Many avoid any social situation where vomiting could occur. Some become completely housebound.
The cause of all of this is a single over-sensitised fear mechanism. TRT recalibrates that mechanism. When the mechanism is corrected, the fear of vomiting dissolves — along with the food restriction, the avoidance behaviours, and the co-occurring anxiety conditions that so often accompany emetophobia.

Common questions
Does The Linden Method work for emetophobia?+
Yes. Emetophobia — the fear of vomiting — is a specific phobia rooted in the same over-sensitised fear mechanism as all other anxiety disorders. TRT recalibrates the mechanism, permanently eliminating the fear response to vomiting-related stimuli.
What causes emetophobia?+
Emetophobia is caused by a sensitised amygdala-centred fear mechanism that has associated vomiting (or the possibility of vomiting) with extreme threat. This often begins after a traumatic vomiting episode in childhood, but the cause — a sensitised fear mechanism — is the same regardless of the trigger.
Is emetophobia related to other anxiety disorders?+
Yes. Emetophobia often co-occurs with food restriction, agoraphobia, health anxiety, and generalised anxiety. This is because all of these conditions share the same root cause: an over-sensitised fear-response mechanism. TRT addresses the mechanism, which is why multiple co-occurring conditions typically resolve together.
Can emetophobia cause eating disorders?+
Yes. Severe emetophobia often leads to significant food restriction and avoidance — clients eat only 'safe' foods or in tiny amounts to reduce the perceived risk of vomiting. This can result in significant weight loss and nutritional deficiency. When emetophobia resolves through TRT, food restriction typically resolves with it.
Emetophobia can be permanently resolved
The mechanism driving your fear of vomiting can be corrected — along with every restriction it has placed on your life.
